Raw Milk Buying Clubs Threatened

Let's pretend for a moment. You are someone that appreciates transparency in our food system. You like to know your farmer and you like for your food to go through as little processing as possible from field to table. OK, easy enough. So let's say you live in the city of Boston, without a car. And you prefer to drink raw, unpasteurized milk.

In the past, there were a number of local buying clubs that you could contract with, who helped you out by picking up your milk for you and delivering it to your door. Sweet! Well, uh, not in Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources' eyes. Turns out that they believe that these co-operatives are risky - that they increase the possibility of contamination and therefore the liability of the farmers.

Whether you actually do fall under the above scenario or not, I would imagine at the very least that you, as Slow Foodies, are concerned about our food choice freedoms and with the (often flawed) government regulators having their say in what & how you eat.

So what can you do? Contact your local representative and tell them NOT to support the regulation that will force these buying clubs to 'cease-and-desist.' Because whether we're pretending or not, it's a little scary to have choices taken away...
